How it works

Set it up once. Verified members find you.

No cold-call screening, no group-chat back-and-forth. Verified members search by city, budget, move date, and lifestyle preferences — they see your listing when their filters match. No algorithmic ranking, no scoring.

i.

Build your profile.

Tell us about you, your space (or what you’re looking for), and what makes a good housemate. Add photos. Set your filters. About 10 minutes.

ii.

Message verified members.

Every member you can talk to has passed Stripe Identity verification. The Rental Passport — verified ID, background check, employment, references — is optional and surfaces on the profile when a member opts in.

iii.

Meet online, then in person.

Chat inside the platform. When you’re both comfortable, meet up at one of our Mia’s Place socials before signing anything.

Built different on purpose.

We looked at every roommate-matching service in the market. Then we built the opposite of what was broken.

Most roommate sites
  • Overrun by bots and ghost profiles
  • Hidden subscription charges and surprise fees
  • Demographic filters used to advertise apartments — the part the Fair Housing Act forbids
  • Digital-only, hope the person on the other end is real
  • An algorithm decides who you see
Mia’s Place
  • Every member ID-verified through Stripe
  • Pass-through pricing — the $1.50 ID check is what Stripe charges us
  • Apartment listings are FHA-strict; roommate preferences live on your profile under the Roommates.com carve-out, optional with a “Prefer not to say” default
  • Optional in-person events where you meet before anyone signs anything
  • You browse. You choose. We just make it easier to find them.

Renting with someone shouldn’t be the scariest part.

Somewhere between rising rents and the internet, finding a trustworthy roommate became a second job. Here’s what we’re fixing.

Rent alone is out of reach.

In most US cities, a one-bedroom eats more than half of a typical paycheck. A roommate isn’t a compromise — it’s how renting actually works now.

Every roommate site is a minefield.

Bots. Ghost listings. Scammers asking for a deposit before you’ve even seen the unit. The biggest name in the category was sued by the FTC for false advertising in 2023.

And the stakes are real.

The person on the other side of your couch has your keys, your schedule, and their name next to yours on a lease. That can’t start with a sketchy DM.

Coming to every city

Meet people in real life. Imagine that.

Each month, Mia’s Place hosts in-person meetups in cities where our members are gathering. No swipes, no profiles-only mode — just real conversation with about twenty other renters in your area who are also looking. A local rental-process host is there if you want to ask questions. Drinks are usually involved.

It turns out meeting someone before you sign a lease with them is a pretty good idea.

What to expect
  • ID check at the door — same standard as online
  • A local rental-process host on-site for questions
  • Optional post-event directory so you can follow up
  • No pressure, no pitch, no “our algorithm says”

Questions people actually ask.

What does it cost?+

Joining and creating a profile is free. Identity verification is $1.50, one time, charged by Stripe (we don’t mark it up). Optional add-ons like a Rental Passport (background, credit, employment, references) run $39, one time, and are up to you.

Where do you operate?+

We’re live in 50 US cities across the country. Pick yours from the city selector at the top of the page and we’ll show you verified members in your area. Our brokerage representation track is currently Pennsylvania-only; in other markets you self-source the apartment and we provide the verified-roommate matching.

What if I don’t want to verify my ID?+

You can create a profile and browse verified members without verifying. You just can’t send a request or chat until you do — so everyone you interact with is a real person, and so are you.

Who’s behind Mia’s Place?+

We’re TCS Group, a rental-focused company. We’ve been placing renters for years and we built Mia’s Place — short for My Ideal Apartment — because we kept watching great apartments fall through because one person couldn’t swing rent alone.

The room is ready. The right housemate is almost here.
